KwaZulu Natal, the kingdom of the Zulu people has much to offer! The warm Indian Ocean, sub tropical climate and magnificent beaches make this one of South Africa’s favourable holiday destinations. Added to this it is home to the mighty Drakensberg mountain range, spectacular game viewing opportunities, and is rich in history and cultural diversity.

Day 1
After collecting your rental car at Durban Airport today, you will commence your journey up the Dolphin Coast to Ballito, a small seaside resort village only 40 minutes from Durban. This is a great stop to orientate yourself, take time to familiarise with the distances your will be travelling over the next coming days. Ballito has a spectacular beach, and this northern coastal strip is playground to bottlenose dolphins, which frolic close to the shore and are visible all year round.

Day 2
The Hlhuluwe, Zululand region is one of South Africa most unspoilt wildlife regions. Travelling through the Zululand, Thanda Private game reserve is located about 23km north of Hluhluwe. This area, also known as the Elephant coast, has 21 different ecosystems and is home to a rich variety of fauna and flora. Sand forests, lakes, lagoons, wetlands and pristine stretches of beaches are home to many animals such as hippos, crocodiles, giant turtles and over 460 bird species. Morning and evening game drives, bush walks and stargazing are just a few of the activities you will be able to enjoy at Thanda.

Day 4
After your morning game viewing activity and breakfast you will recommence your journey northwards, to an area near Pongola, which boarders Swaziland. Pakamisa, meaning “to lift up”, will definitely lift your spirits, and due to it’s spectacular views, you feel like an eagle souring over this magical paradise. Whether you choose an activity-based holiday or simply wish to relax, the variety of sporting, social and cultural activities at Pakamisa offers each guest the freedom to select his or her favourite, personal holiday itinerary. Activities include guided walks, game drives, horse riding, bird watching, fishing, or small talk around the swimming pool or fireplace. You choose how active you would like to be! Being members of the “good cooks and their country houses” association, you are sure of great traditional South African cuisine!

Day 6
A leisurely drive down towards to The Battlefields region lies ahead of you today.  Take a step back in history, and relive the stories, which feature the famous military strategists – Shaka, Churchill, Ghandi and Botha – They were all here before you!
You will be taken on a tour of the Battlefields at Isandlwana and Roukes Drift during your stay.

2 x Overnights at Fugitive’s Drift Lodge on a full Board basis (all meals)

Day 8
The Drakensberg mountain range, now a World Heritage Site, is one of KwaZulu Natal’s draw cards due to its phenomenal beauty. Your next 2 days can be enjoyed venturing through this mountainous area, and your luxury guesthouse, not far away, will be the perfect base to visit Giant’s Castle, the Amphitheatre and Mont-Aux- Sources and the other highlights of this wonderland.

2 x Overnights at Hartford House on a bed & breakfast basis

Day 10
You will begin your journey back to Durban, with one last stop en route within the Valley of a Thousand Hills. This region houses many ravines, waterfalls, and endless forestry regions, making you feel so secluded, that this is the perfect spot to regroup before returning to Durban. Nearby cultural villages will give you insight into the Zulu Culture, and often Zulu dancers in traditional clothing can be seen along the roadways and curio stops en route.

Day 11
You will return to Durban today, where you will drop off your rental car, and connect with your departure flight.
