Okavango Delta Travel Information

The Okavango Delta is deemed the largest inland delta in the world. It offers great scenic beauty and sustains phenomenal numbers of wildlife, crocodile, hippo, waterbucks and various fish species are among the many wild animals that could be viewed from safari vans and boats. The Okavango Delta varies in size throughout the year, depending on the rains, which fall in the Angolan Highlands to the north.

The lodges in North Okavango, near the panhandle, tend to offer year round water activities, while those centrally located in the Moremi area offer both land and water based activities. The highlight of the water activities is to enjoy a mokoro ride – a traditional dug out canoe, where your guide takes you through the channels to view the magnificence of the delta wildlife. The lodges in the Southern Delta, close to Maun often don’t receive floodwaters until August, so activities tend to be land based.
